Apparently it was all part of a larger design to wake people up, sooner or later, to God’s forgiveness through Christ, that all the things that happened to Christ, all the betrayal, persecution and suffering before and while on that cross, all that was done to him, in a life dedicated to saving our souls, was meant to show humans that there was no sacrifice He was unwilling to make for us. That is the only way man can wake up, by having the human heart feel the pain and suffering and betrayal our Savior had to endure. There are still hearts that are unmoved, yet Christ asked his Father to forgive all those who caused his suffering, because they “knew not” the reality of their own depravity. He was scourged, mocked and spat upon for trying to alleviate our suffering, as he carried his own cross up that hill. If there is a heart unmoved by that, perhaps some day that heart will be healed. In God, all things are possible.
