other wise just by measure it .

Say the perimeter of a square is 44 inches.

The formula P = 4s is used.

44 inches = 4s, where s is side of square.

44 inches ÷ 4 = s

11 inches = s

What if the area is 49 inches^2?

A = s^2.

49 = s^2

sqrt{49} = sqrt{s^2}

7 inches = side of square.

You find the area of a square by squaring the length of one of its sides.

If you know the area, you can find the length of each side by taking the square root of area.

step two. realise that a square is made out of sides. 4 of them.
