Most who hear about it will care to some degree. There is a multitude of ways you can look at your situation. If you go the loser route, there are plenty of people who at least "feel" like losers, yet don't contemplate suicide. If you just look at life as life, there are no losers, just people doing different things. No matter where you are in life, you can feel like it's not where you want to be. But that is sort of the fun of life that you can always figure out a way to change things and try new and different things to learn what you do like and what you don't. It's all about state of mind. There are people without a dime to their names who are very happy and people with tons of money who are miserable. Money does not matter, only your state of mind and there are all sorts of things you can do to change that state of mind if you don't like it. If people caring about you is the issue, it is rare that someone is really going to care about you the way you want them to care about you. It's not that they don't care, but some people just need to be shown more than others and most people are distracted by everything else going on in life to pay a person that kind of attention. That is why we mostly see it at the beginning of new relationships because that is when we are most invested in getting to know the other person, but that soon fades as life take over again.
