Rough Landings While Running?

I’ve been running everyday so far this summer, but aside from the occasional cramp or shin splints, there’s something much more rampant. When I’m in the middle of running laps around my backyard, I’ll step a bit too hard onto the ground and get a sharp pain through my leg, mostly through the middle back. My backyard isn’t the most flat area, so is it from the sudden incline or decline? How do I avoid it?
