If it's against me, or a boyfriend if I had one in this situation, then I will firmly reprimand the homophobe. I will only get violent if the bigot gets violent.
If it's against somebody else, I will try to reason with them, but I will only get violent if the bigot gets violent.
If the victim (my hypothetical boyfriend or the other gay/bi/queer/pan/poly person) gets violent, then my reaction will depend on the bigot's reaction.
If the bigot attacks back, I will try to intervene and stop the fighting, and I will only get violent as well as a final resort.
If the bigot takes a step back, I will try to reason with the victim, and make sure everybody walks away from the situation, physically safely, and without further incident.
Regardless of the way I act, or the circumstances that made me act that way, it all ends with me carrying on to live my life.
