The high fat low carb diet isn't all about eating butter, cheese and animal fat.
I use Atkins way of eating, and i don't suck down a bunch of butter, cheese and animal fat daily. I eat a lot of green and colorful vegetables. I eat eggs/fresh meats/fresh fish. I make sure i eat some fermented foods each week, like dill pickles, kim chi or saurkraut. I do eat healthy fats -- olive oil, avocados or avocado oil, MCT oil, coconut oil. I cook with these. And yes, i will eat butter sometimes, easy on the cheese (only a few ounces a week, not a pound of it). I eat bacon sometimes, not all the time.
We have to be sensible about what we are consuming. And fats from meat aren't going to kill us. I don't' eat gobs of meat, i'm sensible about it -- 4-8 ounces a day, more or less, usually less than 8 ounces. I eat seeds and a few nuts (walnuts are an excellent source of healthy fat). I don't consume that much dairy - such as butter or heavy cream. My choice.
Healthy fats are an excellent source of brain food. Our gut health and our brain health are closely related. Our brains are fatty organs and they need to receive fat on a daily basis. You can do some research on gut and brain health if you want. Information all over google.
Its also important, no matter what sort of ways of eating each of us use, to drink a few large glasses of water every day.
And a low carb/high(healthy) fats diet puts our bodies into a state of Ketosis (info all over the internet about this, too). Essentially it means we are burning fats we consume, along with body fat, for energy, instead of crummy high carb, heavy, flour and grain laden foods and we avoid processed foods and junk foods/sugar all together.
I have lost a good bit of weight and I count carbs daily.... it's automatic. I've been doing this for over four years. I'm finished losing weight but i still eat this way, staying around 50-75 grams of carbs a day. I have the best blood work results of my life, my blood pressure went from 168/103 down to 112/58 (last check). I have a lot of energy, my skin looks great.
I do eat something junky to "treat myself" once in a while. It usually tastes great going down, but most of the time? I Pay for it the next day. High carb foods just don't agree with me at all anymore, and i'm much better off without eating processed foods.
This has been my personal experience, and if it's not for you, by all means, don't use it.
