Best Answer: Iran should be an ally but because they have same world view as Russia, the U.S. cannot do that. Because Israel does not want Iran to be a normal prosperous country. And Israel needs a bogeyman, so does the U.S. Similarly the U.S. doesnt want Russia to be a normal prosperous country. There is still an embargo against Iran and sanctions thanks to all American presidents after Jimmy Carter. The U.S. is suspicious of any country that is too independent and does not serve the American interest.
Iran is more advanced and civilized than any of the Arab countries, and thats probably why right-wing Israelis want to keep Iran from being more prestigious or pre-eminent in the region. They are competition with Israel or would be if they had a normal economy. U.S. promised if they signed the nuclear deal U.s. would integrate Iran into global business. As usual U.s. faked them out and went back on its deal.
When Netanyahu has legal troubles he starts accusing Iran of all kinds of mischief to shift blame and claims Iran wants to destroy Israel and everyone believes it. The British and Americans believe whatever he says about Hezbollah being terrorists since they are allied with Iran. But never a story about Saudi Arabia which has killed 10,000 Yemenis with British and American weapons claiming the Houthis are defended by Iran. No weapons were proven to come from Iran and if there were, why shouldnt Houthis defend themselves?
iran is a/the # one terrorist state of the globe

Nukes and their vow to destroy Israel. The last thing anyone should want is a nuke war between nations, any nations. And lest you didn't get the memo, Israel has had nukes for decades. It's one of the least kept secrets in politics.
