In most ways they are not opposites. But the Bible says man was created. Science says he evolved without a creator. It isn't taught with room for the possible existence of a Creator. The Bible says the earth hangs upon nothing and is a circle (sphere). So does Science. There is a weather cycle according to the Bible - rain falls, it travels as either rain or snow but ends up in the rivers and back to the sea where it is evaporated back to the sky where it returns as snow or rain. Science agrees.
I read a prologue for a Science book that basically said that along with all the information and teachings it (the book) set out, there is something else out there that cannot be quantified or explained but that needs to be there for there to be life.
The one thing you can be sure of is that, if there is a conflict, the Bible has been correct for a longer period of time than Science has been studied.
Basically I remember that Science is interpreted by man and you need to use the Bible to interpret the Bible (it doesn't contradict itself if you do thorough research)
Many scientist believe in the Bible: roboticists, biochemists, brain researchers, zoologists. . . even Isaac Newton did.
