Better than Columbus Day, isn't it? We're celebrating a person who fundamentally changed the world for the better. Lincoln's Birthday is also a legal, public holiday in the United States. They both achieved great things in the name of equality, which is an ideal that the United States has struggled with and for for over 200 years. Martin Luther King, Jr, like Gandhi, spoke for peaceful resolution for the improvement of society--and that alone is profound. He's also the first man of color in the United States to have that kind of prestige and influence. He was also murdered by an assassin, which like Lincoln, means he gave his very life for what he believed in. Somebody who sacrifices all he has for the cause of something eternal and right, something he played a key role in leading people in doing, is worthy of this kind of honor.
