Why do native English speakers often confuse words like they're and their?

I am not a native English speaker, but I can't imagine myself making a mistake like that. Where I live we are taught English since 2nd grade and in the first year we learn the differences between: they're and their, where and were etc. Then how come native English speakers who talk English every day, who... show more I am not a native English speaker, but I can't imagine myself making a mistake like that.
