If Jake Arrieta ends up signing with another NL Central Division team, how does that effect the Cubs?

Would it be beneficial, since the Cubs know his pitching rep and tendencies, or not really since he was never an opponent? i would love for Arrieta to stay with the Cubs, but not for a six or seven year deal. or maybe if he wants one, with the last two being club options, and a buyout halfway through the deal. and maybe for around $100 million total. he's still a decent pitcher, but is obviously on the decline after last year, and i doubt he'll come close to what he did in 2015 anymore. when he won the Cy Young award.
