Let me share in important concept of child rearing from a Christian stand point by a simple illustration. It's more detailed than this but the basic concept is still relevant(to me). Draw a circle. The typical child rearing in the U.S. is for the parents to be on the circle and the kids inside the circle which Christian family experts would call "child centered rearing" What you want is the child, and children on the circle together with the parents, and God is in the middle. They are NOT the center of attention, God is the center of attention. You want to start this logic to parental training at 7 months, if you wait until they're older it get's more difficult.
The child learns they are part of the family, they are not the center of attention which breeds a degree of selfishness, and you're goal is to avoid the centered rearing concept. Hope it helps
