One thing I learned is that no matter what name you choose, you can't predict future popularity.
We named our daughter Emma in 1992. It was nowhere near a top ten name. Then, when she was six years old, a character on the t.v. show Friends named her daughter Emma and the name took off.
You know what? I still love her name. I would still love her name if every baby girl from now until the end of time were named Emma.
Sophie/Sophia is a nice name and it has/will stand the test of time.
My name has the honor of being the single trendiest name in all of American history. It came out of nowhere in the 1940s, shot to number one, stayed in the top ten for twenty years, then dropped off the charts and hasn't been back since. You know what? I love my name too, even with three others of the same name in my high school class.
