Piece together a "drawing kit" for her. Get an inexpensive wood or metal "case" for her (something that looks a little fancy...with or without a lock), fill it with a sketch book, a pack of sketch pencils, a big pack of "adult" colored pencils (that is, not Crayola brand...Prismacolor and Faber-Castell brands are really good), thin line and broad markers, being as she's 8...maybe a large pack of crayons, too, a good "gummy" eraser, a normal eraser, a decent pencil sharpener, a ream of plain computer paper, as well as paints and different sizes of paint brushes. and maybe some artist's chalk, too. All of the items can usually be found at craft/hobby stores. If you want, hit an office supply store for a basic "math kit" (protractor, ruler, compass) to add into the box as well.
Alternately, get her a kit that includes all - or most - of those mediums (the markers, pencils, paint, and chalk) and the computer paper and a sketch book....and/or some construction paper. If you do this, you could also get her an inexpensive backpack for her to carry it all around in so all of the stuff is in one place.
