Okay everyone, let's not just arrogantly proclaim our opinion. The issue of guns is quite difficult and it took me a long time to even get to the point where I could have an opinion on it. We need to think this through using facts.
First of all, it is an undeniable fact that banning guns will save lives. Wait! Keep reading. It is also a fact that banning cars will save even more lives. And banning alcohol and drugs... well, we've been there, done that.
The question is not whether banning guns will save lives but whether there are other advantages to having an armed society, and if those advantages outweigh the lives lost as a result of them. In the case of cars, it is obvious: if you banned cars, you'd save lives but you'd make us into a pre-industrial, almost mideval society. The benefit of having motor vehicles in our society outweighs the lives lost as a result of them. Can the same be said for guns? That's the big question.
