Process server can't find person to serve but has found their address. Can he leave by the door?

Process server can't find person to serve but has found their address(person may have multiple homes out of state) . Can he leave by the door and mail them a copy or does he have to actually talk to them in order to serve the papers? This is the official address on the DMV. Thanks

The service would not be valid until the person named is served personally.

if Paul Manafort can have 3 Passports, a legal service needs to find the person and confirm delivery.

Each state has their own requirements for what constitutes something as having been duly served. Your process server should be familiar with how to serve people who are "never home".

Nope, can't just leave it at the door. But service can be done by certified mail. It can also be done by publication in the local paper where the person lives.
