Take pictures of everything now. Tell him to leave the appliances where they are, or you will be there for the inspection and tell the inspectors the truth, AND that you will sue him. I would also start looking for another place right away. If the inspection results in a declaration that the apartment is illegal, you may be told by the city that you have to leave. This would terminate any agreement you have with the landlord, because an illegal rental contract cannot be enforced.
If you won your lawsuit, you MIGHT be awarded punitive damages. On the rent, the most you are likely to get is prorated rent for the time you didn't live in the apartment, not the entire month.
