No hurricane - an earthquake 50 miles or so off the south-west Mexican coast, in the Pacific. Even though the devastation it caused was not in a built=up area, about 50 people have died and great damage to buildings has been caused, many buildings collapsed. 650 miles away to the north, Mexico City had buildings shake and stuff fall down, with structural damage. Now, if that huge city had been in the far south-west, the death toll would have run to the thousands.
Natural disasters have always plagued mankind over many centuries, but as we gather statistics, we can see whether they are on a general increase in number and in effect, or not. Then, if we see that they are, we can read Revelation chapters 8 & 9 and reflect on the warning of a time when plagues will come one after the other on the planet (such as thunder, lightning, earthquakes, fire, mountains falling, heavenly bodies falling and making a lot of water undrinkable, great darkness etc) to an unnatural degree. Yet still the ungodly will not repent and turn from their idolatry, murders, magic arts, and sexual immorality. They curse God instead. Christians see things differently but when people turn on us with mocking and accusations, that is just a step away from them mocking and accusing God - or perhaps it's really the same thing.
