Why do some people defend monuments to the Confederacy but are outraged by someone disrespecting the US flag?
The Confederates tore down a lot of US flags.

As we defend the monuments, we defend the history of this great nation. You do realize that the North had slaves also. This was not just a Southern thought. This was big business in the North against big business in the South. In a Christian nation, slavery could never be right. Many in the South were paying their black brothers to work the plantations for low wages, but they were not completely considered slaves. In politics the South just could not please the North. Jefferson Davis made this clear that Southerners believed it wasn't slavery but Northern dominance wanted by the North. Kansas was not allowed to join Union because of slavery. There were political battles between North and South in Congress. It was a higher law than the Constitution that abolished slavery, but the South never thought it about slavery but the dominance of the North. The North had the financial system and the South had their crops. If you follow the money, you can always discover the root cause. Jon Miltimore wrote that a rapidly changing economy, w/expanding global market, political upheaval, sharp disagreement on purpose of government, and a DIVIDED PEOPLE with a few wanting to build a nation on their own ideas caused the Civil War. This historian commented that it "sounds familiar today." No one divided this nation more than the Clintons, Bushs and Barack Obama.
It was a higher law than the Constitution that abolished slavery, because neither the North nor the South were without guilt. Every real Christian in America knew slavery to be wrong. The plantations in the South were even beginning to treat their slaves with more dignity because of God's law. Many a slave was freed in the South before the Civil War. The North was not righteous in their treatment of the black person; they just didn't have large plantations that needed cheap labor. My grandpa had 13 children to help on his land to raise their food. It took large families on farms to get all the work done.
It has always been the Word of God that changes things. The Word of God even says, "what has been - will be." Which means history repeats itself.

The southerners burned US flags.

TODAY, the people who want to tear down the monuments, are the same ones desecrating the flag on a regular basis.

Good point. The first hero of the Union was Colonel Ellsworth, who was shot by a secessionist hotel owner, for ripping down his rebel flag in Arlington, Virginia. The flag was visible from the White House.

um.... when you get to high school be sure to focus real hard in freshman history....
both are defended because both are important parts of our history and what led us to modern times...
...after all.... the stars & stripes "stood for slavery" a lot longer than the "stars & bars"....... you do know that.... right?

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to what's gong on in the conservative brain, or that empty space in their skulls where a brain should be
