What is the difference between mermaid, fishtail and trumpet? Or are they all the same?

A fit and flare is a dress with a higher skirt beginning just below the hip. It is the most body conscious friendly and universally flattering.

Mermaid is fishtail which is a different name for the same thing. It means that it is the tightest until it flares down the most dramatically at the knee or blow the knee. It makes curves more obvious or may even give the appearance of more curves.

A trumpet dress is the middle road between a fit and flare and a mermaid/fishtail. The flare usually begins at midthigh but isn't as dramatic or restrictive as a mermaid/fishtail. However, it can emphasize a wide waist for some may wish to avoid it.
