Your interpretation of the scriptures is strange but unsurprising. What you are implying is that celestial beings are no big deal, right? It is unascertainable what might have happened if the inhabitants of sodom had tried to defile those angels. It would not have been too pleasant for them I suspect, if not actually quite fatal.
You need to have a sound scriptural knowledge to understand that once a word has gone out against a community or a race of people because they have become unacceptably corrupt, it is almost as if those people ceased to be already, before that torment or punishment is unleashed upon them.
When Almighty God decrees such a thing will happen, it is as good as done.
The angels were sent on the basis that if they could not find 10 righteous or decent men amongst thousands then that city would simply disappear. Since they were unable to find that number, the fate was therefore sealed for it's inhabitants.
The confusion arises as regard who or what was ultimately responsible for the destruction of sodom. The celestial host often refer to themselves as WE and even speak as if they and Almighty God are one being but of course, they are most certainly not. However, they are effectively the same team,i.e. the good guys. So like the greatest football team ever with Almighty God as their Lord and Master and 'Coach' if you like, they will steamroller anything and everything they are ordered to so do. The celestial host are an invincible and almighty army with the power to destroy everything and anything evil which stands before it or sets itself against it.
So when it says "WE" have been sent to destroy it this is referring to the powers of righteousness, I believe and not just the two angels from amongst the heavenly host.
This is my humble opinion and I hope it helps.
In terms of what you are driving at, when the earth's inhabitants become so rebellious and utterly corrupt, there is an almighty army of celestial beings poised to strike. At that point it will be adios muchachos.
You might as well be giving a one finger salute to a tornado just before it rips you limb from limb. :)
To understand the scriptures you need the most powerful ally in the universe. If you do not have that helper you will be blinded to truth and unable to understand what is written unless someone tells you out of love, not anger.
It is completely up to God who understands how much and why as if individuals know too much they will become an immediate target. No-one knows it all, even Jesus admitted that.
ps you are often given what you need rather than what you desire. People who are of The Book are at least partly aware of this simple principle.
That which is left to individual interpretation is part of "The great test". No test, no pass. No pass = no reward/glory.
The wages of sin is death. This is a statement subject to personal interpretation. Those of the world see it as a threat. People of the scripture see it as a vital guidance and given as an act of love.
Anyone who does not desire to see their fellow man succeed is not doing so out of love so have a rethink on your interpretation of what love is. Love also has to include an element of discipline which saves from harm.
So "You're spoiling our fun!" becomes ..... "You're saving our lives."
