2. The child should be an American citizen only if one or both its parents are already American citizens or green card holders; else the child is a citizen of the same country as its mother.

3. The child should be an American citizen only if one of its parents is an American citizen aged 16 or older. The child of a green card holder who is born in the US becomes a citizen if and when its parent does, as long as this is before the child becomes 18.

4. Only the child of an American citizen should automatically be an American. All others are citizens of the same country as their mother.

Update 3: W. T. there are multiple other categories of persons in the US legally, but temporarily. Transit visa, medical visa, student visa, business travel, even tourist.
