Senior Citizens, were you forced to retire at age 65?
BQ: Or do you know someone that had to retire due to the mandatory age?
My dad was in that position but was able to get an appointment until he was 66. The government said that was it.

We have not had mandatory retirement at 65 for men for many, many years and 62 for women. That is considered discriminatory these days and not legal but if an employer wants to get rid of you he can find some way to do it.
An appointment for what?

many people retire at the age of 58-64 because of health or occupational related health problems and they are forced to live on social security disability until they reach the age of 65 in which in most states is automatically turned over to their "retirement".
Many person are forced to retire because of the changes and the mergers of two or more companies in which they has been emplooyed at for over 20 years and the new merger companies refuse to honor the or assist in the pension plan
if a company is getting ready to relocate or be outsourced, some of the seniors with 20-25 years or more is encouraged to take a payout or lose part of their pension by the company they has worked forSource(s): Mandatory retirement options.

BQ-No do not know anyone that was force to retired.
As a matter of facts I've known some that have been hired at the age of 65 and older where I used to work at. They are more dependable then the youngsters of today's.

I don't know anybody that was forced to retire at 65 or any other age.
I was down-sized at 55 and I was lucky enough that it wasn't necessary to go back to work.
I did pretty much nothing for 5 years..... for the last 4 years I've volunteered.

Well I know you never heard this one. I retired at age 37, was worried for the 1st 5 years, then it sunk in how lucky I was, and never looked back.
Yet I'm busier than most people who work full time.
