What kind of story are we talking? Who talks like that?

Have you seen that advert "turn your school into the bbc news" stuff...

One girl in the advert picks up the phone and says "What kind of story are we talking?" I mean who talks like that? It's "what kind of story are we talking ABOUT"

Or is it some kind of slang I'm unfamiliar with?

    It's journalists slang.

  • To Изабелла I agree totally. The statement is incomplete and extremely annoying. Any journalist using such a phrase should either switch career to something more suitable(cleaning toilets?)or be put up against the wall and shot...

I thought it was American slang derived from Yiddish. I didn't know it was also used in the UK. In the US we would tend to say "So what kind of story are we talking here?"

    It's actually the same.
