Not WWII. This actually happened right after the Pilgrims came to America. They took over the land and forced the Native Americans to participate in the Hunger Games. The reason why Pocahontas is so famous is because she was the winner of the first Hunger Games.

Don't listen to any of these fools. The Hunger Games is based on a true story, it just hasn't happened yet. If we continue down the road that the world has been set on, then it will be our future. Not just the corrupt government, we already have that. I mean the entire population will be turned into slaves and forced to produce things that the government would need. In the books and movies, there was one group of people that was happy and enjoyed life, and they were the people living in the capitol. In real life though, no one would be happy and enjoy life. The capitol, would be populated only by government officials and the military.

A lot of people think this is a stupid question, but it actually was influenced by the battles the romans used to have where men would have to fight lions. The whole government of Panem is based on Rome, Right down to the flag design and the chariots.

obviously some people have been lying to you for their entertainment, or their own stupidity :(, no it is not based on a true story. I have researched this fully and i know for a fact that Suzanne Collins (the author of the books) came up with the idea while flicking through t.v shows (coverage of a serious war and a reality show where teens competed for prizes).

More info on Phillip's answer: This is why the continents are seperate instead of being together like Pangaea was. Some of the children used nuclear weapons and huge chunks of the earth were blown up and those huge craters filled with water.

No of course not its fictional if it was real then there would be documentaries about it and the book would say based on a true

    story.

Plus all the advanced technology in the book would never have existed back then

better watch a movie, than read a book.Of course,it is much easier to get a better picture by watching the action(images),then looking at all these expressed words.

Television is merely educational if you are observing a documentary or something similar

Of course not! It's fictional, it's like a dystopian movie, focusing on a negative future or place. It's definitely made up and anyway it wud say "based on a true story" if it was. Hope this helped :)
