Sewage EXPLOSION... Safe to eat?

I noticed the smell of sewage coming from the heating vents, we went to investigate in the basement and found that the sewer had splashed some kind of smelly strange looking water onto the floor. The heater has pushed the sewage smell through the whole house, what do we do?

Is it safe to eat food in the sewage air?

Try to clear the air first with open windows and doors for awhile.

The smell shouldn't affect the cooking regardless of how nauseating that may be

I 'm sure it would as long as it was not touched by sewer water. But really who would want to stay in the house with that smell never mind eat there!

Pretty sure, yes. As long as the food hasn't been contaminated by the actual water.
