Horse Racing: The Marathon, Longest Breeder's Cup Race Your Picks for Friday @ Santa Anita Park?

Though the purse is smaller in this race, The Marathon is one of my favorite. The Marathon is the longest of all Breeders’ Cup races. It is a 1 ¾ miles test of endurance around three turns on the main track for horses 3-years-old and older. Breeders' Cup Marathon (G2). Always a good betting race :)

Distance: 1 3/4 Miles / Conditions: 3 Year Olds and Up/ Purse/ $500,000 / Post Time: 4:20pm EST

Post/ Horse/ Trainer/ Jockey /Odds

1 Atigun/ Ken McPeek/ Mike Smith/ 9-2

2 Fame and Glor/y Aidan O'Brien/ Jamie Spencer/ 5-1

3 Balladry/ Eoin Harty/ Victor Espinoza/ 30-1

4 Grass/y Martin Jones/ Alonso Quinonez/ 30-1

5 Jaycito/ Bob Baffert/ Joe Talamo/ 6-1

6 Calidoscopio / Guillermo Santillan/ Pablo Falero/ 8-1

7 Not Abroad/ Mike Petro/ Nick Petro/ 5-1

8 Romp/ Kristin Mulhall/ Alonso Quinonez/ 30-1

9 Almudena/ Juan Villarroel/ Adrian Giannetti/ 30-1

10 Eldaafer /Diane Alvarad/o Rafael Bejarano/ 8-1

11 Commander/ Troy Taylor/ Mario Gutierrez/ 15-1

12 Worth Repeating/ Mike Machowsky/ Martin Pedroza/ 5-1

13 Sense of Purpose/ Dermot Weld/ Patrick Smullen/ 15-1

(NOTE: #14 Juniper Pass Jockey is different above / MARTIN GARCIA then on PP /DETTORI LANFRANCO , not sure why at this point).

To Qualify for Best Answer Select:

One Horse to Win

One Horse to Place

One Horse to Show

And one Alternate Horse in the event of a Scratch ( Optional )

Please list both name and number of Horse

RESULTS- All races I Host (SS) will be posted Saturday Evening!!!!!!!!!! Thx. :)

Update 2:

WIN - 1 ATIGUN will look to rally into contention in the latter stages of the race and the classic-placed colt exits a fourth against much better company in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Pace could be a factor but I believe we will see Atigun come charging late for an impressive win.

Place- 5 JAYCITO raced sparingly, however the four-year-old appears fit & healthy for trainer Bob Baffert. He had a nice allowance tally, before an encouraging third in the one-mile Big Bear at Santa Anita 12 days ago, which should sharpened him up for the Marathon. Jaycito should find this level of competition to his liking and possesses the endurance-based pedigree to handle the extended trip. His recent BRIS numbers are commendable (100 Speed last time) and the bay colt is well-drawn in post 5 with a returning Joe Talamo.

Show- 7 NOT ABROAD- He owns the tactical speed for a perfect stalk-and-pounce trip and post 7 is perfect for the in-form horse.

Alternate- 6 CALIDOSCOPIO is intriguing. The nine

Update 3:

year-old veteran has captured two of his last three starts which was at an extended distance. In show/scratch.

Enjoy the race !

Update 4:

'Worth Repeating' will not run in this race, The Marathon - Your Alternate will kick in..

Note:Three horses have already been scratched out of the Breeders' Cup World Championships that starts Nov. 2 at Santa Anita Park. Paul Pompa, Jr.'s Sustained has been scratched out of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, as stated, Worth Repeating will not run in the Marathon.

    1) Atigun -Class of the field after a 3rd in the Belmont stakes against better foes.

    2) Worth Repeating- Like the surface ,has speed ,and is running over a speed biased track.

    3) Balladry- Loves the Santa Anita dirt ,and is much better than what his last start indicates)
