generally speaking, we eat... food. :D
well, of course every country and even every region within the country has its own specialities, but as a whole, we have the same large variety of different foods in europe as in america. ever heard of globalization? ;)
a famous non-regional dish all over germany that comes to my mind is probably schnitzel with french fries plus a salad. in restaurants in the southern area you can usually choose between french fries and spätzle, a famous swabian noodle-speciality that you should really try.
apart from that, we eat the same international things that others eat as well. we particularly love italian food such as pizza, spaghetti, lasagne, tortellini etc. which has become a huge integral part of our routinely eating habits.
furthermore, we eat grilled chicken and generally poultry, steaks, chops, roast meat etc., fish, seafood, casseroles, chicken fricassee, minced meat dishes, geschnetzeltes (meat cut into stripes with a creamy mushroom sauce) and so on and so forth, the list is endless.
side dishes usually consist of either noodles, rice or potatoes in all variations (roasted, fried, boiled, mashed), vegetables or a mixed salad with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and such. we also love to barbecue or to make fondue or raclette. so i suppose all in all it doesn´t differ much from what you are used to eat at home.
of course we have also a lot of foreign restaurants here like italian, chinese, greek, thai, mexican, french, spanish and many more. and there is turkish döner kebab which has become no.1 fast food in germany, also greek gyros, german currywurst with french fries and many more. and we certainly have mc donalds, burger king, subway, pizza hut, kfc....
