Could this question please receive an award for the best question ever? When I started with what we called Internet in the late seventies, we had black screens with blinking green letters, computers were called "mainframe" and used ALGOL, FORTRAN or UNIX. Sending an email required writing the full header and the complete routing table. It was clear that the tool would become more powerful and comfortable later but what was at this time the principle difference to telegraphy or morse codes? What else then signalised the start of the "NET"? Internet Explorer?

My vote therefore goes to Alexander GRAHAM Bell even if it was not possible during his time to play 3D-Games with players on all continents at the same time. Telegraphy and morse codes were the grandfathers, from old "beeps" became "new age bits", howe ver the old beeps deserve once to be honored together with their father.

Look it up, it is a sequence of agencies and people, unless you mean specifically the WWW designation and access method rather than the system.
