What is a fragile environment?

Also why is the tropical rainforest a fragile environment?

    Fragile environment = environment that can be easily destroyed due to human activity. For example, tropical rainforests are fragile environments as each component of the environment is dependent on another, therefore if humans cut the trees then the animal species would not survive.

    An environment that can change in significant ways with little change in the factors affecting it. Tropical rainforest is fragile because it is using most of the resources in the area, so that it does not have much "give" if something disturbs it, and will be poorly able to adapt to change or recover from damage.

    A fragile environment is one that is delicately balanced and that could be thrown into a flux with very little change. This means that any introduction of foreign species or substance could alter or destroy it. Surprisingly most environments are extremely adaptive and resilient, yet man is still able to set them on the road to extinction.
