For Liberals only: Could we regain our AAA credit rating if...?

Seriously, if you are on the Political right, you probably won't find this clever or humorous. You have been warned.

Political deadlock was a major piece of the S&P downgrade. Most of the deadlock arose from the TEA party movement: those who are nominally "Taxed enough already" but who really prefer little or no taxes. "It's my money" is a common refrain, but many even object to the money itself, preferring the gold standard and opposing any government action beyond protecting the borders. "Sovereign Citizens" take the movement even further, rejecting all taxes or government authority.

Suppose we created an economic 'nature preserve' where extreme libertarians could hunt wild game, barter with whatever means of exchange they like, and pay no taxes whatsoever. The government would most definitely need to secure the border. And liberals like me would be willing to pay to make sure no one sneaks across that border in either direction.

When people enter, We could exchange all of their US dollars for gold, at the market price of course, and that alone would reduce the National Debt. People who enter would give up their right to vote in exchange for relieving their obligation to pay taxes or do anything for the government ever again.

If there is a shortage of caves, these self reliant souls could build their own thatched huts, or toss a less worthy person out of their cave. Is that wrong? I'm sure the righteous among them can sort it out quickly and cheaply without the need for government intervention.

This may sound harsh, but just as in the recent Congressional debate, the goal is to find a way to accommodate the idealists of the far Right, without ruining things for the rest of us. If the Tea Partiers are playing rugged individualist in the nature preserve, they won't be deadlocking congress when it is time for politicians on both sides to stop campaigning and cut a deal.

I admit my modest proposal has logistical problems -- how big do we make the preserve? what do we do with people who want to re-enter civilization? -- but the important question is, would this help to restore our S&P AAA credit rating?

Update:

RJC,

You have brought up an advantage I didn't have room to point out. So many loose guns will flow into the nature preserve, there will be fewer available outside for burglars to steal and resell on the streets. The logistical problems I alluded to are what do we do if you can't truly make it on your own in the nature preserve. Do we let you back into civilization? Ahead of aspiring foreign immigrants? How do we know you didn't kill someone in there? maybe someone who didn't even need killing?

And the rest of you who have answered so far, learn to read warning labels.

Follow the yellow brick gold, eh? But what about the Sharia-like tendencies they have around founding a Christian Nation? I don't want to see people get hurt by living in their world.

I have a better idea...we should source out really radical and extreme liberals, not the ones who are intellectual, slim and dressed well, the really bat$hit ones who will form a party called ... Tea bagger Party. It would be lead by the face ripper monkey, if the conservative say the word "no", they get the faces ripped off.

Funny, but we may have to answer extremism with extremism.

The Tea Party offered the only real solution for preventing the downgrade of the Nation's credit.

It was called Cut, Cap, and Balance. It was passed by the House..........You know......the Bill that Reid refused to allow to come up for a vote in the Senate..............the Bill that Obama said he would veto if it did make it to his desk............the Bill that would have prevented a Credit Downgrade for the Nation.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/171997-...

This Bill contained a clear solution to the Nation's debt problem and a practical way forward, with the support of 66% of Citizens according to a CNN poll.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/cnn-66-percent...

Had Reid and Obama done their job and represented the wishes of 66% of Americans (liberal CNN poll), those 66% would not have so much to remember in November of 2012.

As you postulated the issue, the answer is "no, absolutely not." Why? Because those left behind are the very ones who have been behind the creation of the problem in the first place. It would get worse even faster.

Read the S&P Report. As long as you have any politician in Washington who can't understand the basic math of a balanced budget (either party), then it won't matter. Entitlements must be addressed, but no one wants to do it because it will essentially be political suicide.

If we didn't have a 1.65 trillion dollar deficit or a 14.3 trillion dollar debt "political bickering" wouldn't even be an issue. It is such a red herring.

We regain our AAA rating by getting our fiscal house in order, no other way exists.

"libertarians could hunt wild game, barter with whatever means of exchange they like, and pay no taxes whatsoever."

    i already hunt.

so if i want to barter for money in exchange for work (like a job), and pay no taxes that would be OK?

Our founding fathers risked everything so that we could remain united. They compromised their ideals uncountable times to the point where they even allowed slavery, just so that we wouldn't split up. And now you propose that we become divided amongst ourselves?

I agree with your statement of "I admit my modest proposal has logistical problems".

Besides libs are afraid of guns.
