Why does Yahoo call it: "Astronomy & Space " - instead of "Astronomy and Astronautics" ? "Space" is totally ambiguous. I think that, since we have had several space stations.. like Skylab and the International space station, and the Russian one, not to mention the great success, repeatedly, of going to the Moon - (PLUS binging along our cars..!) and the many landings on Mars, the old shuttle fleet.. Well, we have had such great astronautics.. and should have much more to come, I'd say Yahoo needs to remove the ambiguity.. What do you think..?

    Space. The final frontier.

    It seems a reasonable choice.

No one knows what Astronautics is. Everybody knows what Space is.

I may be giving a Scrooge-like answer on this, but in my opinion too many people can't read or, if they can, they would not understand what the word Astronautics means. Haven't you noticed how many people ask questions about Astrology on this forum? They either can't read or don't know the difference. The study of science in this country has been given such a negative connotation that most people totally ignore it for fear of being called a nerd or identified with some other derogatory image.

I don't have anything against sports, but when I get the Sunday paper and it has 50 pages of Sports news I often wonder what this world would be like if on some other day the paper published a 50 page section of Science news and had 1/2 as many avid fans as sports do. I mean, there surely is a heck of a lot more science news than the typical half column I sometimes see.

Maybe the ambiguity is one of the title's strengths. People with a question about space, astronautics, or anything like that will think "space". I think it's a general term that conveys its meaning well.

I hate to tell you, but Skylab came down a long time ago. Mir (the Russian station) came down a while back too.

There has continuously been Astronomy. The earliest human beings could have concept about the large array of stars, the replacing moon and the putting solar. convenience then, because it truly is as we communicate, could were gleaned from the increasing solar after a gloomy nighttime, or an finished moon making an allowance for better protection from predators. on the better scale, Astronomy gives you us the prospect to discover that we are no longer on my own. a authentic possibility, no longer one discovered interior of precise the following of a e book written via adult adult males bent on controlling the guidelines and moves of others.

Well, ..., as I understand it they were looking for a catch all. As I understand it, Yahoo!Answers is not going to open up any new subgroups. We really need a Paranormal and Conspiracy theory sub group to keep the 2012 Doomsdayer's and Lunar Conspiracy Folks at bay.

For the same reason iTunes uses the word "song" universally.

I think if you don't care for the way Yahoo Answers runs the boat, you could start your own question and answer site.
