The difference between Carry On is well what it says. ;-) You carry it with you, you have it scanned with your other things at the TSA scan points along with other things belts, cell phones, etc. And from there you take it to the plane and store it in the overhead storage above or go under the seat in front of you, or if its a small plane example connection flights usually.. They will have plane side valet where you give them the bag at the plane door and receive it at the plane door again to carry with you when you land. These HAVE to be a certain size though, only downfall in my point of view.. Size limitations are: A carry-on bag must not exceed 24” long + 18” wide + 13” tall for a total combined linear measurement of 55 inches. There are plus sides to carry on. 1.) You keep your bag with you at all times pretty much 2.) You handle your bag, no worries about it getting lost, things inside damaged, it left at the previous airport, or things stolen from it. This happens. Often. 3.) Most airlines still charge ridiculous fees for "Checked" Baggage. Southwest If they have it where your going you get 2 FREE checked bags each way if you prefer that method, keep it in mind.. =) 4.) When you land @ your final destination, No waiting for your bags at baggage claim! Because you carried it with you! So you can get to the car rental with minimal lines, or whatever you have faster. Open taxis, etc etc. =)
Checked Bags, well honestly they are a pain in my eyes.. Others prefer it. Most airlines still charge for these as I said previously, Usually ranging from 15-25 bucks. To alot of people thats no big, so its up to you. Me im a tightwad and could use that money for better things.. Checked bags, you are eligible to have more things in them, examples could be gold clubs have to be checked, you can even carry rifles and guns, but have to be checked. But again, as I said above you have to wait for them in baggage claim @ your final destination only! If your connecting no worries they are most likely 88% of the time connecting with you. Sometimes, they dont always make it the same time as you do especially if delays are occuring. Etc. So word of advice, if you have something expensive, valuable, whatever you name it. Find a way to have this carried on with you. Most people do checked bags for if they are traveling longer and have to bring more stuff with them and bringing families etc. 20 bucks isnt no big make it 40 or double the 1 way price because you are coming back home/ beginning destination right? They charge eachway and each person so it adds up quick. Like i said, FLY SOUTHWEST if you can. One of very few domestic flights that allow a FREE checked bag, let alone TWO!!! Keep in mind too, regardless of your choice, you are allowed 1 personal item on board with either or. This can be purses, laptops, briefcases etc. If you have a purse and small laptop most airlines wont care especially if you are flying larger airplanes. Now the hairsprays etc. Most are allowed on board in carry ons but are limited to size, so if your having checked put them there. Most people dont but some do, think about it are you really going to NEED them on board...?
What to put in your carry on, well things more valuable you dont wanna take the risk of losing being stolen etc. Clothes, mostly anything you can carry on checked with just a size limit, and some guidelines of course apply to your Carry-On.
The site Below describes it well.
Here is an Airline site in which I felt described whats prohibited and not the best. They chart your yes an no answers to each checked bags and carry ons for you.
Sorry for the long answer but I figured Id give detail, anything I left out Ill add later.
Hope this helped!
LAX is a large airport, so if you dont already you have several big name airlines to choose from. Search their guidelines, most are the same.. But prices arent.
Best Airlines for money spent in MY OPINION
Southwest, JetBlue, Virgin Airlines. For Domestic.
If you got the money and want a true 5* experience. Asiana Airlines. Hands down. Then Lufthansa or JetBlue. For your International.
And personally I fly JetBlue Everywhere I can. Or southwest.
