for example, "I'd take that with a grain of salt" what does this mean?

    Salt does not weigh much, so you should not put too much "weight" in what was given.

    For example: ... but thats only my opinion so you should take it with a grain of salt (translated: ... but thats only by opinion so don't invest too much or weigh it more heavily compared to others)

    Thats how I have always taken that phrase.

    It means that you don't take it seriously -- you view it with scepticism.
