Is this a bad thesis statement?

I'm writing an analytical essay on the novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

This is my thesis statement. I'm not sure if its a good one. I need some opinions.

"In John Steinbeck's novel East of Eden, Steinbeck expresses his belief that the struggle between good and evil is a recurring conflict that mankind face."

It is good. If you want to add more, you can use "In John Steinbeck's novel East of Eden, Steinbeck expresses his belief that the struggle between good and evil is a recurring conflict that mankind faces through his use of...." and provide examples

De-word it a bit, please - you say Steinbeck twice within 5 words. Either, "In his novel East of Eden, John Steinbeck....." or "In John Steinbeck's novel East of Eden, he......" and it should be "...that mankind faces." Mankind is a singular noun. (Can you tell I'm a teacher???)
