* Revelation 3:8: ". . . have kept My word. . . ."

* Revelation 12:17: ". . . who keep the commandments of God. . . ." [This is written to the remnant of the seed, that is, to God's elect.]

Update:

More info...

The word "keep" is a command that appears ten times in the book of Revelation. It is the same word that is translated in John 14:15, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." We will notice just a few of its appearances. The first three are written to three of the seven churches: Thyatira, Sardis, and Philadelphia, respectively:

Update 2:

To watch and Keep... what does this mean?

Update 3:

Thank you for building with words ... with me.

Amen. These are such precious encouraging Words to us from our Lord Jesus, who loves us to the uttermost and enables us by His Abiding Spirit to keep and hold fast in this christian life.

I was really impressed with the reference in Rev 3:8, where the Lord is speaking to the church in Philadelphia ( brotherly love).

This church kept not only the Lord's word but did not deny His name.

The Word is the very expression of God.

    His Name is His Person.

To keep the Lord's Word is to stay true to what His Word says. There was the problem of the teachings of Balaam ( Rev 2:14) the teachings of the Nicolaitans ( Rev 2:15) the teachings of Jezebel ( Rev 2:20) the mysterious doctrines of satan ( Rev 2:24).

All of these go against the PURE Word of God and came into the church to distract, confuse, and keep God's people from the Truth.

To keep the Word, I believe we need to store up and treasure up His Word in our hearts. Let His Word abide in us. You cannot keep what you do not have. These are the days to redeem the time, to memorize the Word. Hide it in our hearts where nothing can get at it. This abiding word guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus.

I love also that you touched on Holding Fast. What do we hold fast to? The Lord's Name.

As the Bride, espoused to the Lord Jesus, we should not hold to any other name than His name. His Name denotes His very Person.

It is unseemly for someone who is to be married to one to take on the name of another. Today, many have moved away from the Lord's Name and have taken on the names of others.

We have become identified as to what KIND of believer we are based on the name we are under.

We may be Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, Non Denominational, Wesleyian, of this person's ministry or that person's ministry.

We are either labelled according to a Man or based on a Doctrine or spiritual emphasis.

To drop everything and just take the Lord's Name as our Covering means that we recognize that He is not only our Head, but our coming Bridegroom.

This to me is what it is to Hold Fast. Not denying His Name means we hold fast to Him no matter what everyone else is flavoured and labelled by.

May we keep His Word and Hold Fast to His Name always.

    PS.

ITS YOU. I was wondering who this new ID name was. Hey sissy. Love u!

    Define Hold Fast

I think Christ put it pretty clear in Jn 14:15 as you quoted. But, what I have come to understand in it's full meaning is to keep the Word of God in your heart and on your mind, by seeking first the kingdom [Matt 6:33]. If we center our lives upon Christ, and the Word which is Christ, then we obey and keep His commandments, which are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and to love our neighbor. By thinking first of Christ (What Would Jesus Do) [WWJD], then each thought and action is directed by the Spirit, and therefore living in obedience to the will of God. This is how the body of Christ shares it's light with the world. This is the love of Christ in us working through us. This is how we become His hands, His feet, His eyes. This is the power of the cross through His people.

Blessings to all. The Bible is the infinitely precious and infallible word of God. But if the living God does not open our hearts to the word of God, we can read it and cannot come to the things, he wants us to learn. ... “Holding fast” translates a word that means hold your position or hold your gaze, focus, believe, trust, have faith, hang on , keep your eyes on the Lord and He will keep you in peace .Take it and hold fast to it. It is your life. Your light. “Be watchful.” We could translate this, “become and stay awake” or “get awake.” By the analogy of Scripture this was a command for believers to get back into fellowship, i.e., to repent or confess their sin and start walking in the Spirit and in the light of the Word (Eph. 5:14-18).

For the unbeliever or the merely apparent believer, this becomes a call to become genuine with Christ, to put one’s faith in the Savior (cf. 1 Thess. 5:4-8).

“And strengthen the things that remain.” Strengthen is an aorist imperative of the verb sthrizw which means “to strengthen, make stable, firm.” The aspect of the verb (an aorist imperative in the Greek) carries the idea of urgency like, do it now, before it is too late. This is basically a command to get with God’s plan for spiritual stabilization and strength. And what is that? A life in the Word. If you have any doubt about that, spend some time reading and meditating on Psalm 119.

See the preceding studies for the nature of this challenge to have ears to hear.

    Some final lessons:

    (1) The means for living the Christian life so vital for spiritual reality is a knowledge and a careful application of the Word through the various ministries of the Spirit (vs. 1).

    (2) The signs of a successful church, one truly in touch with God is not names, noses, and numbers, but Christlikeness. How much do the people of the church demonstrate the Savior in their personal lives, in their families, in their values, priorities, ministry, etc.? It is never just activity or works or size or reputation. Activities and reputations by themselves are never a proof of true spirituality.

    (3) Genuine godliness is the foundation of moral goodness. Moral goodness is always incomplete and on the verge of degeneration without godliness through the Spirit and the Word with its absolute truth.

    (4) God is always faithful to reward His people for their faithfulness to Him. Salvation is by faith alone, sola fide, in Christ alone, but rewards are the product of overcoming faith in the life of Christ appropriated in the Christian’s life.

I hope this help you a little. God bless you.

Keep the commandments and hold fast to your faith, thats all you need to be saved when you include the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Keep the commandments means to obey them , keep them in your heart and mind. ( not just write them down and keep them in a box)
