Do you have a modem with an ethernet cord hooked up to your home computer? Is the cord yellow (it is in the U.S., but it's easily recognizable because it's thicker and should look like the one that came with your router)? If so, unplug the power cord from your modem, unplug the yellow cord from your computer and plug it into your router. Then plug the cord that came with your router into a slot on your router and then back into the spot where your modem was plugged into your computer. Then plug the power cord for your modem back into it. Hopefully, this will be all you need to do...I did it on Sunday for my mother-in-law. It worked like a charm. Oh, if the router's new, don't unplug or plug in anything until the software disk is in place in your computer.
I realize that sounds like a lot of instructions, but just take it a sentence at a time. It only takes a few minutes. BTW, when I say "power cord," that's the cord the plugs into your electrical outlet.
