Why do Jehovah's Witnesses fear reading or considering opposing views?

If you want the inside scoop on an organization structure and culture, who do you turn to?

Who is in the best position to tell you secrets within an organizations history?

Why would anyone take the word of a practicing member of a cult?

Could a cult member actually ascribe anything other than the purest motives to the cult he or she belongs to?

How can you wake a cult member up to the above reality?

All questions that center around this absolute fear jw's have of reading or even considering outside the cult information.

You cannot brainwash an individual with a particular worldview if you allow that individual access to other views, especially views that are based on reality.

First, we are not a cult. "Cult" is what those who can think of nothing to bad to say about us with reason say.

Second, we do not fear any of these things. Every single day we answer all types of people while out in the ministry. We follow 1Peter 3:15 to always be ready to make a defense for our faith from the Bible. The difference is we show why we believe is because of what the Bible really teaches and not some theories or guesses.

After doing so all day long, even we must have a little rest time. We do not have to come home to read or consider them at home unless it for personal study.

I notice your posted question is reasonable but the far greater part of additional remarks is the insistence we must be a cult. Could it be you are yourself afraid of what we teach is the truth? Since you have no evidence any of our Biblical teachings are wrong, you rely on the old pathetic standby "cult calling".

I do not fear reading anything that has to do with the Bible, as far as reading garbage(trash) or others opinion of my faith I will not read.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't fear, we don't pollute our minds with wicked, demonic, immoral, or false religion.

From every walk of life, comes the Jehovah's Witnesses(1 Co 6:9-11). We have escaped from an uneducated immoral world. We no longer are friends to it(James 4:4).

We are told not to touch the unclean thing.

Our conduct is based on the Bible, we know what it says, why would we look at imitations, we have the real thing. All you offer with your reasoning's is like the garbage dump to us. We have found the truth.

Again we do not fear it, we have no use for it, why should we waste our time on false lies, traditions of men & fables(stories) made up by men(2 Tim 4:3,4)

You confuse fear, we fear God, not men!

And by the way, the Jehovah's Witnesses are listed as a religion, not a cult by the laws of the U.S.A., we won this right in the Supreme Court.

All other beliefs are cults to us, Tau, sun god, symbol the cross, Easter, Queen of the Heavens, symbol the rabbit, she's the goddess of fertility, & many other pagan festivals & pagan gods/goddesses celebrated by those that are ignorant as to what the Bible teaches. The Jehovah's Witnesses can prove this using ny Bible. It is you that fear us because of our assurance with our faith.

Have to tell you, I loved AmberLynn's answer because it is also my answer. I was baptised LDS but also extensively studied Catholicism and the Baptist beliefs. I was very spiritual but figured they all must have a little bit right and a whole lot wrong, but I believed in God and was hoping I was on the right path. I have no fear whatsoever about studying up on another religion, in fact my whole congregation is interested in other beliefs. I would like to know more about Muslim beliefs. I am so very happy that I decided to invite into my home the sisters who had the little booklet 'What does the Bible Really Teach?'

How does studying and living by the bible laws lead you to believe we are in a cult? Maybe the cult of Jesus Christ? Reality is the bible!

    LOL

I though it was a serious question at first but I see it just a hate question.

I doubt you even really want a genuine answer.

It sounds like you are in a cult & you are attacking the JW's becuse they know the bible & God better than your own cult.

How can you wake a cult member up to the above reality?

Sounds like someone has become a JW & has been set free from the lies of Christiandom & you don't want that person to have a happy life & relationship with God you would rather see them chained down by false religion , you know like the church you believe in.

If you are a Christian, the atheists can turn this one right back at ya. No, I'm not JW, but come on: a cult. Face it, cult is just your way of saying "I don't like their beliefs" only it's a four letter word.

Been there, done that! Knowing what other religions believe, is one reason I became a Witness. Those other religions I was associated with, never taught me a single thing about the Bible or the True God. I did, however learn a lot about when the next political rally, church bazaar or picnic would take place. Why on earth would you or anyone else think that I would want to return to what I left behind? When one improves their situation or life why would they return to what helped screw it up in the first place? Even convicts know that if they continue to associate with people who helped them go to prison, will help put them right back in prison. We know enough about all other religions to know they do not worship Jehovah God. Why would we want to endanger our relationship with Him just to get a taste of what little they have to offer?

What gets me upset about your question is all the assumptions. you envision a group of leaders out to mess with people's mind. you do not see much sincerity. If they had information they were keeping from the congregations, why would they risk losing eternity. God would get very angry with them for not saying the truth. what would be their motive, if you feel that they are not sincere?

as for the other reason. well, you seen how religious groups split up into factions. there are many types of Christians. and there is no line in heaven, one for methodists and one for Baptists. since a person is saved based on his love and acceptance for his heavenly father. nevertheless, a split in a Church is sad, and JW's do not want that. they want to stay united.

If you want to recognize countfeit money, you study the real thing and then the counterfeit quickly stands out. JW study the Bible and they know what they believe. They know where people get their religious ideas from the study of ancient religions. There is no need for them to waste time rehashing things they are already familiar with.

As for calling them a cult, you are dead wrong. They simply have modeled their life after the first century Christians and reject anything that comes from sources outside the Bible.

    Absolutely bogus slander.

J.W.s even publish a book that explains all the basics of the major world religions, which book is so accurate that it has been used by professors of world religion as a textbook for their classes . . .

    "Mankind's Search For God" #

J.W.s believe that the Bible is God's Word, and contains the absolute truth.

So, that is what they choose to concentrate on. But, the book mentioned above --plus several articles in their magazines over the years-- regularly examine the beliefs of the majority --if not all-- other religions. . . Just for example:

    'The Lure of Santeria"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20000708a/article_01.htm

    "What Really Is Hell?"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20020715/article_02.htm

"Is Astrology the Key to Your Future?---What Is Astrology? http://watchtower.org/e/20050808/article_01.htm

"Can You Control Your Future?" {''Fate'

    http://watchtower.org/e/20050115/article_01.htm

"Yoga--Just an Exercise or Something More?"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20020801a/article_01.htm

"Is Evolution Compatible With the Bible?"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20080101a/article_01.htm

"Do You Believe in Reincarnation?---Should You?" http://watchtower.org/e/19970515/article_01.htm

"Should the Zodiac Influence Your Life?"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20001108a/article_01.htm

"What You Should Know About Witchcraft"

    http://watchtower.org/e/20000401/article_01.htm

"Should You Believe in the Trinity?"

    http://watchtower.org/e/ti/index.htm?article=start...

    So . . . Why do you 'critisize the *highly educated* J.W.s . . . ?

Don't you believe that they have the right to believe what they choose . . . ?

They are trying to help those who also want to understand the Bible, and God's view of things . . . while you seek to turn those very ones away from one of --IF not THE-- best source for them to learn from . . . Why . . . ?

    .

You've got it totally wrong bub. It has nothing to do with fear. Why should we utterly squander and waste our time considering the putrid swill full of Satanic lies that come from your organizations, who, because of being Satan's henchmen, have no goal other then hatred for the Almighty God Jehovah and his true worshipers, Jehovah's Witnesses. Satan wants to be God and people of your ilk are supporting him in those losing efforts.
