    Avast Home Free

I see Avast's little blue sphere in a lot of system trays, and with good reason: it's one of the most recommended free Windows antivirus options. One nice thing about Avast is that the installer only installs the antivirus program – there's no toolbar or anything else to dodge. Definitions update automatically, scans can be scheduled, and the boot-time scan tool does a good job at uprooting even stubborn infections.

I changed to Avast a few months ago, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

  • To tell you the fact that free anti virus will show you that it is scanning your computer and detecting viruses and cleaning it, but does it really?

Think wisely. If free anti virus works so well, why people will buy anti virus?

I have used Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 for last one year without any tension, I would suggest you to use Kaspersky.

Only single antivirus cannot help u out in tough situations ,

You need a combination of softwares to help protect ur PC .

Here is the combination that I use

Avast antivirus > Malwarebytes > Super Antispyware > Comodo Firewall .

u can use AVG or Avira FREE in place of Avast , thats ur choice

As Far as avast is concerned , u need to register for free , give them ur email address and they will send u a free licence key for avast (i.e. for 1 year ) and u are entitled to use the software for 1 year ! For the next year all u have to do is re-register it once again for free .

U can get the above on following addresses -

    Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

    AVG - http://www.free.avg.com/

    Avira - http://www.free-av.com/

    Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

    SuperAntispyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Any one of the following Firewalls -

    Comodo Firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

    Zone Alarm Free Firewall

    http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-...

These apps work in combo to protect ur PC , and provide rock solid protection against viruses ,and all are free !

    Good Luck

If you get DSL service let's say through AT&T you will get McAfee forever as long as you stay with them, and I like it. Check with your DSL provider what they offer. Otherwise forget today about good forever Anti virus, unless it's hacked.
