police lie detector test?

well i have signed up for criminal justice at edison college i want to be a sheriff in portcharlotte florida. i have read that u have to take a lie detector and im all ok with that, but there is one thing that has bothered me before i start first i would like to say that i have NEVER bin arrested, never charged for anything i have never bin in trouble with a police officer EVER (i am basically the goody good boy if u know what i mean). but when i was about 15 or 16 years old me and 2 of my friends hang out after work, turns out my friend smokes weed he offered me some but i never took the offer (i have smelt weed but NEVER have i smoked/inhaled it through the mouth down my lungs). i smelt it because my friends were pretty close to me...will they fail me if i take the lie detector test.

p.s other then what i told u i am clean,period.

The Polygraph is more about if you WILL lie not so much as what you have done. Just be truthful and honest regardless of the question and you will be fine.

a lie detector test is based on the premise of fear of knowing what you have done been right or wrong. The problem is that a question or set of questions can lead you to give the wrong results as you have mentioned somewhere in the past they sort of took place. Your fear of having it disclosed though it was so long ago will lead you to give them a wrong reading because you will spike the test up, if you are ask the question per example if you have ever broken the law? technically you did since you where around a controlled substance, but you did not participate, however your fear of been on the right will force the test to give a reading if you say yes it will be a no, and if you say no it will be a yes, depending on the response you give to yes and no. That is why lie detector test are not admissible in court. They can be used to find more evidence against someone but are not a valid means in court, since the readings could always be right or wrong, and they can be so easily disqualified just like i just explained to you. SO as long as you are honest there should not be a problem, but be aware that what ever you hide they will bring out since they already have tactics to do so. GOOD LUCK....

By telling the exact truth, by offering info thier super extensive background check does, shows them your the true honest person that you are.

You care clean, your drug tests will prove that, if your bothered this much about this, tell the background specialist, so they understand if your test shows your nervous, she will let you know your not considered a condidate because of that, they are interested in the truth, so tell the background person anything you can, so your consious clear for the lie detector later down the road. I have taken part of a test to work for a city that involved some of the police testing, and that is what they told us, do not lie, they expect everyone not to be an angel, they only expect their applicants to be honest.

Almost all questions on a lie detector test are yes and no answers they will ask you some base questions before the test and ask if there is anything you wish to divulge . explain to them what you just said and all will go well. They will or may ask "other then what you have previously divulged to us have you ever smoked marijuana" then you just say , no. Good luck and remember it wont matter how nervous you are , because they establish a base line first and if your jumpy it'll remain that way throughout the test.

Lie detector tests are a whole load of crap. They base it on body reactions. If your reaction to one question is higher than the norm, they assume you're lying. But the reaction could be caused by many things, such as vivid memories being recalled. I suggest you check out this website thoroughly...

But the bottom line is that you didn't do anything wrong. Maintain that frame of thought and answer without thinking.

lmfao nothing bad is going to happen, you have done nothing wrong. even if you smoked weed in the past, nothing would happen, as long as youre clean now and ahve been clean for a while

they won't be like "Have you ever had a friend who smoked weed" on the lie detector test, they don't give a rats as s

you're good to go bro, you've done nothing wrong

Some agency's will hold it against you but I'd rather tell the truth and lose that job and keep looking for one who thinks that telling the truth is the best policy. This way nothing can be brought up later for what ever agency hires you. Don't let this keep you from telling the truth. You don't half to worry about what man thinks of you. You better be thinking of what God knows about you. Good Luck !

No your good man youll do fine on the test they ask you a few general questions one of those most likly will be (have you ever experimented with drugs) and youll honestly say no because you never did drugs you seen and smelled someone else do drugs.Plus marijuana is a small charge anyways you can be cited a ticket for it unless you have alot of it wich would be a felony posesson of sales but im positive you will do fine.

Dont freak out over it. It may cause you to be extremely nervous when taking the test and potentially test that youre lying when youre really not. If you dont lie, youll be fine.

Just answer every question truthfully and you will do okay. If you lie, they will detect that and note that you were dishonest...even if the question was irrelevant.
