if a body dies in one position and is not moved for some time after death, the first thing that happens is what's called dependent lividity, which is when all the blood in the body pools in the lowest places because of gravity. This is what you hear mentioned in shows like csi. once lividity is set, it doesn't move because the blood clots soon after pooling. This is how investigators can tell if a body was moved after death. (ex. if lividity is fixed on the back, it means that the person died lying on their back... so if they're found face down it means the body was moved after death.)

Once the blood clots the next step depends on whether the body will continue through natural decomposition, or if it is to be embalmed for funeral. If it's to be embalmed, then a solution is used to flush the arteries and veins clean of blood, and then are filled with a preservative solution, so that's the end of the process for blood. The body itself will decompose, but the embalming retards the process.

If the body goes through natural decomp, then the cells within the bloodstream begin to break down as do the rest of the tissues in the body. Provided nothing decides to make a meal of the body, decomp continues until the organic particles are eroded by insect and microbial activity until there is nothing left.

The undertaker sucks it out (by machine) and replaces it with a formaldehyde solution to preserve the corpse. If you die in your sleep the blood will congeal and set after some days which is why the undertaker does the job. If you have been stabbed you may die of blood loss. The heart cannot supply sufficient oxygen to the brain to stop you from snuffing it. But the undertaker will remove what's left as said.

Gravity forces all of the blood in your body towards the lowest part. For example, if you died on your back, then your blood would pool to your back, buttocks, and the backs of your legs. If you die on your stomach, blood would pool into your stomach, your face, etc. It causes a lot of ugly bruising in these areas.

The condition is called Lividity. It's one of the only conditions that an Emergency Medical Technician can declare death without a coroner or medical examiner.

    1. Heart stops beating and/or lungs stop breathing. 2. Body cells no longer receive supplies of blood and oxygen. 3. Cells cease aerobic respiration, and are unable to generate the energy molecules needed to maintain normal muscle biochemistry. 4. Cells eventually die and the body loses its capacity to fight off bacteria. 5. The cells' own enzymes and bacterial activity cause the body to decompose 6. Brain cells can die if deprived of oxygen for more than three minutes. Muscle cells live on for several hours. Bone and skin cells can stay alive for several days.

Yes actually they will still fight against foreign problems and eventually either get destroyed from them because you will no longer make new blood cells or they will die out when oxygen is depleted.

I'm not qualified to give you a full answer, but the arteries that pump blood around the vein system will slowly stop working, then i guess the blood flow would stop completely, and the blood pressure would be a lot lower.

then the blood would settle in the veins and cappileries until it rots away

Yeah the blood dries up in your body.

Like you know those times when you've cut yourself and after a while the wound is a dryish feeling well it will be something a bit like that

You need to dispose of it safely, usually the city council has a place for that, often next to where you dump the old oil from your car. Hang on to your old paint cans for when you die. You can t just leave it on a bus!
