Equallity in the truest sense would be mediocrity. Which is what the government here is trying to mandate, with it's "No one left Behind" scholong (yes ... instead of focusing on those who do have learning issues for whatever reason, lets dumb down ALL the curriculum)
Shoot. I have heard of School Teachers instituting Phys Ed stuff like CUP STACKING (no lie here) becasue they felt that since somekids ar ebad at sports it would be unfair to have actaul PE. (No wonder we Americans are so fat)
I do believe that everyone should have EQUAL OPPURTUNITY, but that those oppurtunities should not be a mandate where you have to hire people just because of skin color, which is how it was in the past. That is really not oppurtunity, but quotas.
I think that everything should be based on MERITOCRACY, where quite simply, the best suited for a job is the one that gets it. Even in Education, if the schools would actually Do APtitude based Education (Leave teh other stuff for Elective classes if the kids want them) and Allow Kids to school acoording to their INDIVIDUAL skill sets, I believe we would have a much more sucessful society. Heck, even in College.. why doe s a Person going to become a Gym Teacher need Trigonometry? If they enjoy it, then take it, but mandating this Gen Ed stuff is dumb.
Personally, I do not find anything particularly desirable about Jealousy, Pride and all that. Maybe it's because we are such a broken people we cannot display them in a "healthy" way anymore. I like people being competitive, and taking pride in what they do, but things like Racial and NAtional Pride are what starts wars, and those I could do without.
Simple fact, we are NOT all created equal. We excel and fail at different things based on who we are as individuals. The foolishness of trying to make us all the "Same" is apparent. Give everyone an equal start, and let us land where we merit by our particular talents, ambitions and desires.
