Why is it acceptable for car insurance companies to only insure women or people of a certain age, but not..?

..only insure white people, or black people. I know they base it on statistics and all, but even if statistics showed that people of a certain race crashed more I very much doubt a company be allowed to not insure them.

Just a thought.

Because it's business and you don't have to do business with them. But I believe if they can discriminate (which they aren't supposed to) like that based on personal preferance, then it shouldn't be a law that we have to buy car insurence. Who knows? They could monopolize and we HAVE to get insurance from them. (that's also illegal, but hey....)

They are a private business and are not obligated to take your money if they don't want to do business with you. They are not a government program, you know. They base their business on stats, and it is very successful that way.
