I used to shops in thrift stores all the time because it was all I could afford. I was selective in what I purchased, just as if I was paying full price, and I had a beautiful wardrobe of designer clothes that I purchased for literally a few dollars. I still own a few of those pieces, and I still wear them. I didn't care what anybody thought about it then and I don't now. I still shop in thrift stores from time to time, and I still enjoy it. The clothes can be washed or dry cleaned before wearing if one is concerned about cleanliness. The only things I have never purchased secondhand, and never will, are shoes and undergarments. Shoes are not safe to purchase secondhand even if they are washed first because they have been molded to the original owner's foot and could cause back or joint problems in the new owner. As for undergarments, I don't think that needs an explanation.
