How long can the employer withold you salary check?

If you are being employed in the state of Georgia and are being paid bi-weekly, how long is the employer allowed to withold your salary check before he gives it to you?

    They absolutely cannot withhold it at all if you are supposed to be paid. Unless you are working illegally, you should talk directly to your employer and if they still refuse to pay you, go contact the better business bureau or police.

    Companies will often "delay" payment to allow the finance people to process a check based on actual time worked, etc. In one large US company, we were paid at the end of the fourth week for the first two weeks that we worked. This continued until the end of our employment and we had our last pay check two weeks after we left our jobs.

    I don't know about Georgia but in UK wages have an absolute priority over other jobs the boss has to do and if he has to go without sleep to pay them , then so be it.

    If your payday is every other friday, and you are not paid, then the employer is breaking the law by not paying you on time.

    Withholding wages is classed as theft.
