This quotation reflects the communist idea that "property is theft". What it means is that each individual owns only their own body, and anything else is the property of the state. The general meaning of this is that all property should be shared between all the members of the community- one's own self is the only thing that one is entitled to keep to one's self.

The quote is ironic - it means literally as other have said that we only really own our own bodies - but in the case of the animals of course it is the farmer (and then the pigs) who owns their bare skins - as Boxer finds out when he is sold to the knacker's yard.

I am doing this book at school and it means that everything that they make is taken away from them for example the cows milk is taken away by Mr. Jones. The only thing that genuinely belongs to them is their skin. They can't control anything else. That is why Old Major says that. Hope I could help.

What it means is that in a communist/socialist system all property is owned by the state, by the central government, and not by individuals.

It means that we only own our bodies and what's inside them - all the other things that we think we possess, we're only keeping for a little while.

It is such a fundamental position...if we can't have agency over our own corporal body then what would we have? I agree with dom's statement...everything else is fleeting, arbitrary.

It means that no one owns anything without themselves.

they had nothing , it was either mortgaged , in debt for or indebted for the rest of their lives , so materialism was not to be held in awe or aspire to .
