What is the best virus protection software period?

What is the best virus protection software to date, I want something that can detect realtime threats, malware and expecially trojans because some virus protection software doesnt scan for trojans very well.

I have PC tools Spyware doctor with antivirus

and I also have spybot search and destroy

the reason why i am concerned i look at alot of malicious websites.

and my system idle process.exe and my pctssvc.exe are jumping through the roof like there is a malicious program in the back ground that is not detectible by normal means and methods.

Use Avast & Spybot. -> best combinations.

Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do

a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove all viruses on your PC.

Even those stubborn trojan viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4.8.

It now protects against spyware, rootkits, and other forms of nonvirus malicious software.

Best of all, it's free for personal use.

    Avast Anti-virus installation

    How to configure Avast ?

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy a spyware killer for years. I have recently added superantispyware. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

avira.com...Try a online virus scan here are some address to try Safety.Live.com...Housecall.TrendMicro.com...get some protection Comodo.com is offering a complete security suite free and yes they can be trusted if you want to do it yourself I recommend Avira.com along with Safer-Networking.org(spybot search&destory) or SpywareBlaster from majorgeeks.com or Lavasoft.com...MalwareBytes.org is another good one to consider although the last two don't offer free protection some even recommend two anti-spyware scanners just to be on the safe side the other bit of advice i have to offer is external firewalls they hardwire to the machine with usb or firewire hook up now thats cutting edge tech.Remember paid is usually better than free however since Comodo.com kind offer that may not be the case anymore...here is a list of online virus scans safety.live.com (that was microsoft's) housecall.trendmicro.com F-secure.com sophos.com
