Why charge people for trying to kill Gordon Brown? Sounds a very altruistic,public-spirited act to me?

Update:

Is this a joke? How about because killing another human being is wrong? Always has been, in just about any jurisdiction and time?

Isn't there an ancient law somewhere which allows an English archer to shoot and kill a Scotchperson?

I know such a law exists in Chester, which allows an English archer to shoot and kill any Welshperson and that's why I don't go there.
