That's a $6.5 million question and I'm afraid I don't have the money (meaning answer)!
Sad, my haters (close friends whom I loved with everything in me and would do anything to help them achieve the same social status) got so out of control they stopped calling me, hoped I would not come over on the weekends, were too busy to go to the mall, or on vacations with me, etc. I admit I am very self confident which comes off as cocky in some circles. But, with close friends I am quite nurturing and down to earth especially in a 16 year friendship.
These are adults...so don't think it will get better with age. For example: I used to drive an old, plain car. I was not too broke, but too cheap to get another one. My friend made considerably less money, but had a better vehicle--an Explorer, suv. She constantly picked (a grown woman) talking about "when you gon get another car?" I believe in giving the haters what they ask for, so I did!! When I pulled up in my brand new, LATER MODEL, fully loaded version of hers, she said "Big as your a$S is, you should have got an Expetition.
Ever since then, "its been on like butter popcorn" and I show up looking fly just to spite her.
My favorite is the fact that I have spent 9 years in college to get a PhD. My former friends turned associates/haters always laughed at me because I couldn't hang out on the weekends. Once, I started showing up with designer (the real ones) bags, going to the spa every two weeks, taking small vacations, and purchased a home (without fooling a man like them)--13 years later, they are all enrolled in college (although they are old enough to teach the class). Did I mention I am a professor, too bad they're not taking my course. I'd fail them all and tell them my classroom is a "hater free zone."
