Removing a computer virus causing pop up ads and fake warnings- NEED HELP!!?

On Sat. I was on myspace, computer froze up and had 10 pop up ads appear. Ever since then have had fake security warnings pop telling me that I need to download some other program to make sure my computer is safe. I WILL NOT do this b/c I know it is a hoax. Plus I have Webroot Spyware and Anti virus already. I called them, said it was virtumonde(?) but my scans do not tell me anything about this...just other types of adware. It also totally changed my background of my computer to blue (another ad for that fake spyware) and won't let me alt+ctrl+del- says system admin won't allow it. I am running Windoows XP,purchased computer in 2005, good with computers but not this! HELP!! Thanks sooo much!

Update:

Does this sound like virtumonde? Everything I read about it online said that I would see the words "VIRTUMONDE" when I scan my computer??

Also, I sent a "log" to webroot for their techs to investigate. What is a log? How do they know what I have by viewing that? Is that safe to share?

Update 2:

One more thing...can this transfer to my dig camera if I connect it to my computer? What about any other mp3 files or pictures I have saved? If I have to reformat then can I save my pics to a disk first? I have an Ipod so my songs are safe right b/c they are on it too?

Step 1: Make sure that you have an up to date antivirus program. If you don't, install AVG. You should only have one antivirus program. (If you need to uninstall your antivirus, use RevoUninstaller)

Step 2: Visit the Google Pack website, and use it to download Spyware Doctor.

Step 3: Download and install ThreatFire.

Step 4: Make sure to use Mozilla's Firefox from here on out. Also, install the Adblock Plus and NoScript add-ons for it.

Step 5: Make sure that you have a firewall program on your computer. If you don't, install Comodo.

Step 6: Turn off System Restore, and restart in safe mode

Step 7: Launch Spyware Doctor and make sure to update it by clicking on the Smart Update button.

Step 8: Run an Intelli Scan, uncheck, "create restore point...", and then click the fix button. Repeat until intelli scan doesn't find anything new.

Step 9: Run a full scan.

Step 10: If the full scan finds something, run an intelli scan after.

Step 11: Run a full scan with your Antivirus program.

Step 12: Restart. If everything is fixed, you can stop now. If the problem persists, read my guide at the link below for more in depth instructions.

This is just a quick summary of what you should do. For other recommended programs, and their optimal settings, visit my guide on the matter. http://prometechus.blogspot.com/2007/09/... FEEL FREE TO IM ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

Pop Ups on a computer is not a virus. Its called 3rd party software aka software that did not come on your computer or software you dint necesarily downlaod to your computer but its coming up.Alot of times it comes from something you downloaded like limewire for example when your are in the download process it may prompy you with a the question do you want limewire to send you adds ect..if you dont uncheck the box you will get pop ups.Whenever you download something be sure to read everything carefully. The pop up blocker should help.A virus sighn would be if at the bottom right corner where the time and other programs runing on your computer are you see a new program there. Also if you get a pop up that says you have 300 viruses and bugs and then it prompts you to download this virus protection and it will clean um up for you thats the only problem you have is that program telling you that you have problems thats the virus and once you download it you got the virus. If you had 300 viruses your computer would not be working at all lol. Most older ppl read that and freak and then they download the "program aka virus" and then all hell breaks loose.

I swear by this system. first off download ad-aware (free version) at www.adaware.com and download option is to the right. update it and run a full system scan. delete everything it finds by checking the check box.

restart your pc and see if that helps any. if it DOESNT, get a little crazy with the virus. restart your pc and run ad-aware in safe mode. to get into safe mode tap f8 while the computer is JUST starting up (when its making all the noises).

restart the pc after that and see if it helped. if that DOESNT WORK. you can try system restore to friday or any date before saturday. to do that go to safe mode the same way you would normally and instead of checking the option to go into safe mode choose system restore and it will give you a calander with bold dates to where you can restore to.

    1. Download and run firefox to protect your from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through internet explorer (Trojan downloaders, win32 ) .Then update your windows through firefox

Browser attacks aren't easy to spot because they piggyback on legitimate traffic that doesn't exhibit many obvious warning signs

    2. Run the vundo and combo fix http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/2007/05...

If you are using default browser of windows then it is a problem. but if you are using any other browser then just reinstall it. Try to use spyware Doctor.
